Looks on Books #18 – The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi

LOB #18

Hello everyone!

I am back with one of my original features inspired by Lila @ The Bookkeeper’s Secret and Reg @ She Latitude to put together outfits inspired by book covers.Usually I pick the cover based on my favorite books (old and new), under-hyped books that I want to feature a bit more on my blog or just regular beautiful covers.

SO let’s get started!

This is one of my most recent reads. Actually never mind, I read it back in May (time goes by really fast, guys). I’ve been recommended this book since it came out last year. The cover is absolutely stunning and eye catching but some of the first reviews were mixed. Some people weren’t the biggest fans of the writing style, they found the story confusing, while other people were absolutely raving over it. So it made me a bit more hesitant to start it since I am prone to being easily confused. However, that ended up working in my favor because when I finally managed to read it, I’d totally forgotten that it was a retelling and I was swept away by the story on its own. I’m really looking forward to reading the companion sequel soon.

Fun fact: I’ve been struggling not to buy a copy of this book since March and the struggle is getting harder. (I haven’t bought it because I don’t have money to spend on books right now, not because I don’t want to own it haha.)

Synopsis:

Fate and fortune. Power and passion. What does it take to be the queen of a kingdom when you’re only seventeen?

Maya is cursed. With a horoscope that promises a marriage of death and destruction, she has earned only the scorn and fear of her father’s kingdom. Content to follow more scholarly pursuits, her whole world is torn apart when her father, the Raja, arranges a wedding of political convenience to quell outside rebellions. Soon Maya becomes the queen of Akaran and wife of Amar. Neither roles are what she expected: As Akaran’s queen, she finds her voice and power. As Amar’s wife, she finds something else entirely: Compassion. Protection. Desire…

But Akaran has its own secrets—thousands of locked doors, gardens of glass, and a tree that bears memories instead of fruit. Soon, Maya suspects her life is in danger. Yet who, besides her husband, can she trust? With the fate of the human and Otherworldly realms hanging in the balance, Maya must unravel an ancient mystery that spans reincarnated lives to save those she loves the most…including herself.

So that’s it for this post! Let me know what you think of the look and if you’ve read this book. I would love if you guys read this book and could chat about it with me! Thanks so much for reading and I’ll see you on my next post.
