June ’20 Wrap Up

Hey ya’ll!

It’s the end of another month and I am still here! Who would’ve thunk it? haha. This past month has been a bit challenging for me but I still tried to keep reading as big as a priority as I could. I also participated in the Olympic Games Readathon and I managed to read two books for the mandatory challenges and one for an advanced challenge that doesn’t really count for the teams but it’s okay! haha. I had a great time with it and I hope the readathon continues in the next few years. I also managed to read a few others books that I can’t wait to tell you all about!

SO let’s get started!

Personal Thoughts

Pride Month is in June and while it is a very complicated month for me, it does bring me a lot of great joy. Queer books are some of my favorite books to read and to chat about. I find a lot of happiness in these stories, even those that are not necessarily about happiness. I had hoped to attend my first Pride parade this year, but as with most things because of Covid, it was not meant to be. However, I know soon the time will come and I cannot wait!

Change is something I have been struggling with a lot this month. It’s always been a tough thing for me to handle, how it usually comes unexpectedly or without warning, how it shakes every support beam and established plateau in your life and especially, how it makes me feel so discombobulated. But, I have slowly come to learn that it arrives because it is a part of life and the best thing I can for myself is to ride the waves of change with the least amount of fighting possible. I hope I can do that better and better every year.

Books I Read

  1. Soulless (Parasol Protectorate #1) by Gail Carriger –  Re-read! I’ve been working on trying to finish series I’ve neglected. Technically speaking, this series I have already finished but I have yet to complete it’s companion and because I am a pain, I’m starting at the very beginning! haha. Still love this first book as much as I did the first time!
  2. The Case for Jamie (Charlotte Holmes #3) by Brittany Cavallaro – Re-read! Gearing up to finish this series finally next month, the third book is so much clearer now with this second read. There is so much going on from beginning to end and I definitely feel like I have a better grasp on it now. I also think this could’ve been a great finale but we’ll see how I feel about the fourth book.
  3. The Sword of Summer (Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard #1) by Rick Riordan –  The next two books I read for the Olympic Games Readathon! I didn’t do as well as I wanted to but I am super glad that I at least managed to read the first book in this series! I’ve been interested in it since it came out because of the connection to the Greek series and though I didn’t enjoy it as much as I hoped, I’m excited to see where the next books go.
  4. Bittersweet (True North #1) by Sarina Bowen –  Second book for the readathon! One of the prompts was to finish a book in 3 days and I always manage to do that with romance novels which is why I picked this one up. I am pretty predictable and easy to please when it comes to romance so I definitely enjoyed reading this book. I’m intrigued about the companion novels but we’ll have to see when I get to them.
  5. Of Curses and Kisses (St. Rosetta’s Academy #1) by Sandhya Menon –  I am a HUGE fan of Sandhya Menon and I think I have read most of her published work since this one! I really liked how the Beauty and the Beast retelling played out in this book, it was really unique but also quickly recognizable. It’s not my favorite of her books but I’m really looking forward to seeing how the series continues.
  6. You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson – THIS IS MY NEW FAVORITE BOOK! I am completely and totally obsessed with this story. It was so enticing, powerful and beautiful! Honestly, I don’t think I’ve fallen in love with a book this fast in a really long time. I genuinely want to reread it right this second. PLEASE GIVE IT A TRY! IT’S SO GOOD!

Challenges Update

  • Goodreads Reading Challenge – 46/50 (92%)
  • Read It While It’s Hot Challenge – 3/12
  • Finishing the Series Challenge – 4/12

So that’s it for this post! Thanks so much for checking out this post. I would love to know what you all read in June and what your favorite book of the month was! Also, as you’re reading this, I am celebrating my 26th birthday (WHAT?!) so I will definitely be getting some books to celebrate! Let me know what you think I should get ya’ll!
